Lunch Break in Elba, Montana

From the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS):

#SciSelfieSunday — This photo shows hydrologic technician Lindsay Hastings, along with Brent Mason and Joel Groten, taking a lunch break on top of a fire watch tower in Elba, Minnesota. Prior to lunch, Lindsay and her team were wading in a river taking samples to measure the suspended sediment concentration, or in other words, the solid particles that are transported through flowing water. Having too much suspended sediments in stream and river systems can cause ecological damage, so these measurements are taken to better understand how much sediment is being transported through the water, and provide data for river restoration.
