Morris Wetland Management District

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Facebook Post:

The prairies are definitely full of purple and pink this time of year. This is wild bergamot on a habitat easement at the Morris Wetland Management District(WMD) in Minnesota.

To the uninitiated, a prairie may look like “just a lot of grass.” Slow down and take some time to really look, and you will see that the prairie is an incredibly diverse and lovely place.

Some of the higher quality prairies in the WMD have well over 100 species of grasses and wildflowers. The best time to view wildflowers in a prairie is during the year following a prescribed burn – the plants are at their most lush and showy then. The WMD is responsible for about 7,000 acres of unplowed, native prairie:http://1.usa.gov/1qzRZxz.
