Lee Crockett, former National Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) Coordinator for NOAA Fisheries explains why EFH is important to our fisheries: “Fish need places for shelter, food, reproduction and growth. In other words, fish need homes. People get that. Non-fishing activities such as polluted discharges and certain fishing activities such as bottom trawling can degrade EFH like corals or seagrasses. If you take out a bunch of sensitive habitats with your actions, it’s not growing back for many years. The EFH authority gave NOAA Fisheries and the fishery management councils a mechanism to influence those impacts to fish habitat.” #EFH20 http://
