From U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Southwest Region:
The Tobusch fishhook cactus is a small, inconspicuous cactus found only in Texas' Edwards Plateau. The plant was listed as endangered in 1979 with only 200 plants known to exist in a few Texas counties. Thanks to the collaborative research and monitoring efforts by Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas Department of Transportation, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, The Nature Conservancy in Texas and private landowners more than 4,000 plants are now known to exist in eight counties.
