We just had to share two photos of the first right whales of the season, and as luck would have it, it was a mom with her new calf! They were sighted by a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission aerial survey plane 16 nautical miles east of Cumberland Island, Georgia, on Dec. 13. The mom is known as right whale #2145. She doesn’t have a nickname and is 24 years old. This is her 5th documented calf and she last calved in 2009.
