From Chesapeake Bay Field Office:
As late fall advances toward the cold winter season, migrating golden eagles from Canada are in route to their over wintering destinations in the United States. Here, an immature golden eagle is captured along the Blue Ridge Mountains in eastern West Virginia. Golden eagles are marked with color ID bands and in some cases, fitted with satellite transmitters to track their movements during their winter stay. The Service with their state partners are involved in monitoring flight behaviors and movements to assess eagle mortality near wind power projects.
