Eelgrass Project off Bainbridge Island

From U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Headquarters:

This photo shows work being done on an eelgrass project off Bainbridge Island. The project restores nursery habitat for juvenile salmonids through the restoration of eelgrass beds. More than 40,000 tons of clean pea gravel and sand will be placed in an offshore depression to provide substrate for the eelgrass at the proper water depth. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is the project sponsor. The fill placement started on Jan. 8, 2015, and pea gravel placement was completed on Jan. 23. Sand placement to began last week. The in-water work must be complete by Feb. 15 and we are on track to meet that deadline.
