LOS ANGELES – On Thursday, U.S. EPA Regional Administrator Jared Blumenfeld will join the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to announce the conclusion of a 90 day pilot partnership that resulted in more than 730 items being seized or exported out of the country for violating federal standards, resulting in a significant reduction of harmful air emissions from polluting the United States. The pilot partnership conducted between EPA Region 9 and CBP from June-September 2014 was created to hold importers of foreign-made vehicles and equipment accountable for complying with the EPA’s Clean Air Act and CBP’s regulatory authority on merchandise importation, re-export, seizure and forfeiture of unlawful products entering the U.S.  EPA inspectors will be at the site conducting a live inspection of new imports that entered through the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
