TOMORROW: EPA Administrator and Mayor Gray to Visit DC School for Children’s Health Month

WASHINGTON -- Tomorrow, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy and DC Mayor Vincent C. Gray will visit The Inspired Teaching School to bring attention to Children’s Health Month and highlight actions we can all take to educate and protect children from environmental health risks. Scientific research shows that children are uniquely vulnerable to environmental hazards. Warmer temperatures from climate change, fueled by carbon pollution, are making allergy seasons longer and worsening smog, exacerbating asthma in our kids. One in ten kids in the U.S. already suffers from asthma, and these numbers go up in communities of color, low-income families, and tribal populations. EPA is committed to keeping children’s health considerations and concerns at the forefront of the Agency’s research, practice, and policy decisions.

During Administrator McCarthy and Mayor Gray’s visit, they will meet with school officials to tour advancements the school has made toward becoming LEED certified and will visit with 2nd graders to hear their school projects and what they’ve been learning about the environment.  The administrator and the mayor will hold a media availability following the classroom visit.
