House Republicans are doubling down on their investigation of a 2010 federal report that erroneously suggested outside engineers had endorsed a deepwater drilling moratorium imposed after the BP oil spill.
House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings (R-Wash.) issued a second subpoena late Wednesday as part of the probe. This time, Hastings subpoenaed the Interior Department's inspector general for documents related to the report.
The subpoena came one day after the Interior Department provided 164 pages of documents in response to a separate subpoena over the drilling safety report. Hastings called the response inadequate and is now demanding that the department’s inspector general provide the remaining documents.
“[I]nstead of complying with a subpoena and disclosing documents on its actions, the Interior Department sent a three-page letter providing excuses under a façade of cooperation,” Hastings said in a statement. “These exact same delaying tactics have been used for months and further stonewalling is unacceptable.”
