Red-bellied Woodpecker

From the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Midwest Region:




The red-bellied woodpecker creates a circular nest cavity, laying eggs on a bed of wood chips left from the excavation. They raise 1 to 3 chicks that hang around the nest for almost a month.
