Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Receives $150,000 Grant for Environmental Education

Press release: Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Receives $150,000 Grant for Environmental Education (DALLAS – July 20, 2012) The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) a $150,000 matching grant for environmental education. The grant will help fund programs for several different groups, and allow the LDWF to provide sub-grants for other education projects. The LDWF will use part of the grant to fund Sustainably Yours, a multi-faceted environmental education program tailored for teachers, K-12 students, the general public and outreach professionals. The program’s goals are to highlight sound scientific principles and promote informed environmental decision-making. The EPA grant will also allow the LDWF to provide new sub-grants. The first group of sub-grants will be distributed through the School Sustainability Grants program, which encourages sustainability initiatives on K-12 school campuses. The second group of sub-grants will go to the Sustainability Initiative Project and will be awarded to non-profits, agencies and other groups that work with educators and other segments of the public. The LDWF will also develop a workshop for educators and students about marine debris with the grant.
