From USFWS National Wildlife Refuge System:
Seven threatened chicks have been carefully removed from their burrows, placed into pet carriers and carried up the side of the mountain on Kaua’i’s north shore in Hawai’i to a waiting helicopter. http://bit.ly/2cMKchv They were flown toKilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge where they will be raised to fledgling from the same site as 10 Hawaiian petrels translocated last year. The goal is to start new colonies of both birds. This photo of Newell’s Shearwater by Andre Raine, Kaua’i Endangered Seabird Recovery Project
