Walking Onions

From Fort Scott National Historic Site, National Park Service:

These are Walking Onions. The name of this herb/vegetable sounds like something from a cartoon, or a bad superhero name. They are also known as tree onions, top onions, winter onions, and perennial onions. This plant, which can be invasive, is called a walking onion because it will spread itself all over your garden, or the prairie, with no effort from you. The plant in the right climate with produce chives from the spring to the fall and the bulbs can be eaten as well. They have a strong flavor and don’t have to be peeled like many other onion varieties.
(We recommend consulting an expert before eating any wild plants.)
