Endangered Giant Garter Snake

From USFWS National Wildlife Refuge System:

Some people don’t like snakes? But they’re fascinating. Consider the giant garter snake – photographed by Gary Nafis at Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, CA: It is dormant underground when the water goes below 68 degrees. Between April 1 and May 1, the snake starts to hunt for food. Destruction of habitat – including wetlands – and habitat fragmentation are among the reasons the snake is listed as endangered.
