The Geologic Landscape of Basque Country

From NASA's Earth Observatory:

Along the Bay of Biscay, the coast of Basque Country, Spain, holds a fantastic geologic landscape. The light color rocks of Aketx Island and the peninsula of Gaztelugatxe are part of a complex of reefs developed during the Lower Cretaceous epoch. They include biostromic calcarenite limestone and synsedimentary gaps. The darker color outcrops seen covering most of Cape Matxitxako are composed of black flysch, formed during the creation of the bay. This photograph was taken by Roberto Pinedo Vadillo on November 21, 2014. This image was originally published by Earth Science Picture of the Day.
