Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

From U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service:

It's a perfect time of year to go bird watching down atMerritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Florida! This great photo of an eastern kingbird was taken by Tom Dunkerton, a volunteer at the refuge.

The refuge is known for its abundant birdlife and is a major destination for birders from throughout the world. Over 320 species have been documented so no matter what season you visit, you are likely to see a variety of birds: http://1.usa.gov/1nY6cHO.

The peak season for birding is between October and April. Hundreds of thousands of migratory birds use the refuge as a temporary rest stop or spend the entire winter season loafing in refuge impoundments which creates excellent birding opportunities.

Here are more birding opportunities on national wildlife refuges from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center:http://po.st/DiaF5F.
