Rockwell Collins awards $90,000 in Green Communities grants to fund environmental projects around the globe

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (June 2 2014) – A Rockwell Collins Green Communities grant will help students and teachers at Annapolis Middle School in Annapolis, Maryland, to restore the natural beauty of a school courtyard. The school is one of nearly 50 organizations around the world benefitting this year from $90,000 in Green Communities environmental grants awarded by Rockwell Collins.
With a $2,500 Green Communities grant, the team of 7th and 8th grade students will renovate and restore the courtyard, which is overgrown with English ivy. The renovation plans include installing native gardens to protect drain areas in the courtyard to slow and filter storm water before it drains into the storm water management system. The water flows into Crab Creek, part of the South River watershed, and eventually the Chesapeake Bay.
