From U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service:
Did someone say six more weeks of winter? Guess it's time to burrow! Groundhogs use their burrows throughout the year for safety, resting and raising young. In the winter they curl up and let their heart rates slow from 75 to 4 beats per minute. Their burrow systems have somewhere between two and ten entrances, so be on the lookout for them!
