Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata)

From Klamath Basin Refuges:

Wetland Bird of the Week: Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata), is a dabbling duck that is easily distinguished by its unique bill. The “spoon” shape of its bill has earned it the nick names of “Spoony” and “Boot Lip”. These birds are found on the refuge year round and can be seen feeding in large groups. They are often observed swimming in circles in order to funnel food from the marsh bottom to the surface of the water, where it is easier for them to feed.
