Thowback Thursday: Don't let the rifles fool you. These men are on a biological survey expedition to Death Valley, California (1891). They were leaders at the Biological Survey (precursor to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service). From left to right: Biological Survey Chief C. Hart Merriam, Vernon Bailey, Theodore Sherman Palmer, and A.K. Fisher.
