From Rocky Mountain National Park:
Small and Mighty!
Even in winter, White-breasted nuthatches are active, agile little birds with an appetite for insects and seeds. Nuthatches get their common name from their habit of jamming large nuts into tree bark, then whacking them with their sharp bill to “hatch” out the seed from the inside. In the park, look for these fierce birds foraging along the trunk and larger limbs of trees, climbing about and exploring surfaces in search of food.
