From Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuges Complex:
The Giving Tree- This native gumbo limbo tree is hosting lots of white-crowned pigeons these days. The pigeons feast on the ripened fruit. Native trees are essential to the survival of these and many other bird and wildlife species in the Florida Keys. It is also noteworthy that trees and plants that bloom, and fruit throughout the year are also critically important. When nesting in the summer months these pigeons will switch over to summer fruit trees that include poison wood, blolly and sea grape. You can help wildlife by planting natives that offer a variety of food sources throughout the year.
