Searching for an outdoor Spring Break adventure?
Keys Kids in Nature (KKIN) offers fun ways for kids aged 4-12 to learn about Croc Lake’s endangered species, including the American crocodile, Key Largo woodrat and Schaus’ swallowtail butterfly. Environmental educator Nicky Laak will lead hands-on activities that gets kids outside to explore the natural world.
KKIN environmental education programs are provided by Florida Keys National Wildlife Refuges Complex as part of Outdoor Fest, and run from 2-4 PM on Monday March 13th and Tuesday March 14th. Monday’s theme is a Scavenger Hunt and on Tuesday, kids will learn about the Food Web.
Children will learn through hands-on activities and record their experiences in a field-journal. While in the Refuge, participants may come in contact with insects, plants, and small animals. If your child has any allergies or health concerns, please notify the facilitator. Since we will be outside, the clothes you and your child wear are important. Long pants, long sleeve shirts, and bug spray should be worn. Shoes should be closed-toed and comfortable for walking.
Outdoor Fest is brought to you in part by the Monroe County Tourist Development Council. To learn more about the exciting slate of events running from March 11th-18th throughout the Florida Keys, or to register, visitwww.favorfloridakeys.org/
