Do You Hear What I Hear?
The mating call of the endangered Houston toad, a species unique to east-central Texas, is ringing out this month. February through March is peak breeding season for this toad species with chorusing males aggregating in ponds to attract females. Early survey results from researchers this year appear promising with larger numbers of chorusing males recorded in some locations. Hopefully, this trend will continue for the remainder of the breeding season and across the Houston toad’s range. More information on the Houston toad is available at https://goo.gl/ij3cVV.
