Annual Closure Due to Arrival of Shorebirds

From Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge:

A friendly reminder: The arrival of shorebirds brings the annual closure, starting March 15th, of Assawoman Island and the southern portion of Assateague Island (beyond the Coast Guard Station). That means our beach will soon transform into a bustling nursery for piping plovers, American oystercatchers and many other coastal birds. March 15th also marks the opening of the North Oversand Vehicle area for fishing (OSV permit required). Please see our website for details.
