From Midwest National Parks:
“Try to be like the turtle – at ease in your own shell.” -Bill Copeland
The painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) is the most widespread native turtle of North America. It lives in slow-moving fresh waters, from southern Canada to Louisiana and northern Mexico, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The turtle is the only species of the genus Chrysemys, which is part of the pond turtle family Emydidae. Fossils show that the painted turtle existed 15 million years ago. Four regionally based subspecies (the eastern, midland, southern, and western) evolved during the last ice age. #mondaymotivation

A Business of Ferrets
#Sunday
From Midwest National Parks:
Did you know that a group of ferrets is called a business? Black-footed ferrets -- agile creatures with masked faces and droopy whiskers -- have been reintroduced in several national parks. Today, in places like Badlands National Park, they once again roam their native prairies. Business as usual...except on Sundays. Take it easy there.#NationalFerretDay

Feral Horses in the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park
From Midwest National Parks:
Did you know wild (Feral) horses can be seen in the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park? You might even catch a glimpse of a young foal. Foals are horses up to one year old. After a year, they're known as yearlings. Young horses will stay with their natal herd until they are two or three years old.
