From Wind Cave National Park:
This summer marks the 10-year anniversary of the reintroduction of black-footed ferrets to Wind Cave National Park. How are they doing now? Resource Management conducts seasonal surveys to answer this question about the ferret population. For three nights this week, and again later this summer and fall, a group of park biologists and volunteers will search the prairie for glowing green eyes. Black-footed ferrets are nocturnal and hunt prairie dogs at night, and can be seen darting between prairie dog holes. Once thought to be extinct, this mammal is slowly making a comeback as it repopulates the park and other areas throughout the country.#WildlifeWednesday
