NEW ORLEANS—October 1, 2012—GE (NYSE: GE) today announced the appointment of Ralph Exton to serve as a member of the 2012-2013 Board of Trustees for the Water Environment Federation (WEF), an international organization of water quality professionals headquartered in Alexandria, Va. Exton has extensive experience in various leadership, business and international roles and has more than 25 years of advanced water treatment and water purification experience. Exton’s position on the board took effect September 29.

In addition to his current role as the chief marketing officer—water and process technologies for GE Power & Water, Exton also leads theecomagination program and water reuse and reduction initiatives, as well as the Water for Humanity program at GE. Exton is an active member of International Desalination Association and is co-chair for the AIChE Society for Water Solutions.

Furthering his business and leadership experience, Exton is the business program manager for the GE Experienced Commercial Leadership Program designed to attract, retain and grow a diverse and global population of future sales and marketing leaders for the business.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on the WEF board and to be amongst this group of distinguished professionals from the water industry,” said Exton. “I look forward to engaging with the other board members to address the ongoing water challenges our world faces every day.”

GE also announced that Paul Schuler, regional executive for GE Power & Water’s water and process technologies, is stepping down from his role as a member of the Board of Trustees for WEF, which he held during the 2011-2012 session. A member of WEF since 1991, Schuler has held multiple leadership and committee roles within the organization. He served in the House of Delegates for two years and is a member of the Water Reuse Committee, Municipal Wastewater Design Committee and Membrane Community of Practice.

Schuler also is an active member of the Pacific Northwest Clean Water Association, serving on the board from 1996 to 2008, as well as president in 2003. Schuler’s other professional affiliations include the American Water Works Association and the American Membrane Technology Association.

“It has been a privilege to serve on the WEF Board of Trustees these past few years,” said Schuler. “I want to extend my gratitude to WEF and to the other board members for the opportunity to be a part of this dynamic organization. I have enjoyed sharing this experience with my peers in the water industry as we worked through this critical need.”

The WEF Board of Trustees is the governing body of WEF and holds legal and fiduciary responsibility on behalf of WEF and its membership. It sets strategic direction and provides leadership and oversight. Board members are nominated by the WEF nomination committee and elected by the House of Delegates, the deliberative and representational body of WEF.
